Baby Potties

A big question that arises when you are going to start potty training your little one is “which kind of baby potty should we use?” This is a very important question because it really does effect whether or not you’re successful. Your child has to be comfortable sitting on and using whichever type of potty you pick. There are really 3 different types you can choose from. You have the floor potty, the donut on the toilet seat, or the potty chair that has steps and rests on the toilet bowl.

The floor potty is a great option and they make them in all different styles and designs and they range all over the board in prices. These are great because most kiddos like to keep their feet on the floor when going potty, it makes them feel more comfortable. The little cute potty can also make them feel special because they have their own unique potty that is just for them. They are usually pretty easy to clean and make it easier for your little one to see what they did in the potty to help encourage them to be successful again.

However, some children might be afraid of them because they don’t see anyone else using it. My son did not like the floor potty we got for him. He didn’t have anything to hold on to when he was trying to sit on it and would often miss the seat. You do have to clean them every time which can become inconvenient compared to just flushing the toilet. Some floor potties come with bags you can just take out, throw away, and replace but this is an added expense. Another downside is that you will eventually have to teach your little one to use the big potty still.

Amazon: Potty Training Seat

This potty training seat is another great option and they eliminate the issue of having to switch your little one from the little floor potty to the big potty. They have steps so your child can get up to the potty themselves and have handles to help them stay stable when sitting down or getting back up. This one has rubber anti-slip pads on the underside of the bottom step and the underside of the potty seat to help prevent it from moving and provides a better feeling of security for your little one. This style is also wonderful because the seat folds down and you can move it in front of the sink to use as steps to teach your toddler to wash their hands after they potty.

This is the potty seat my son learned on and still uses. It works great for him, like I previously said, he did not like the floor potty because he could not sit on it easily and wanted to be like mom and dad and use the big potty. It is adjustable to fit different heights and it does have the raised guard in the front to help them not to miss if you have a boy. A couple down sides, It is a slight inconvenience to have to move it off the toilet every time me or my husband need to go and there is still a tinny gap between the toilet bowl and the potty seat that my son has still occasionally been able to get pee through.

This potty seat is very similar except it doesn’t have the steps. Still a great option for training straight on the big potty but you will probably need to purchase a step stool if you do not already have one for them to wash their hands. You will have to pick them up every time as well, until they are tall enough to get on the seat themselves. However, these do work great with the handles to help with the sense of security and they have the splash guard for boys.

All of the potty seats are great options, it just depends on what your little one is comfortable with. Remember, that is the most import thing for successful potty training, your child needs to be comfortable on the potty seat. All three options also have downsides so really just pick what will work best for you and your little one. We bought the floor potty and quickly realized he does not like it so we switched to the potty seat with the steps and it was a game changer for him. You got this momma!
