Boy or Girl?

It’s what everyone wants to know…. Is it a boy or girl?? From the moment I found out I was pregnant with both of my babies, I was trying to guess if they were going to be a boy or girl. The wait until your 20 week anatomy ultrasound feels like forever! You just want to know already! Right?? Well, now, you have the option of getting your blood drawn for prenatal testing that can also tell you the gender of the baby as early as 10 weeks. That’s half the time you will have to wait! Granted, the test results are not instant and take about a week to come back, but it is still less time than 20 weeks! Plus the genetic screening can help give you peace of mind as well or prepare you for any uncertainties.

In the mean times it doesn’t hurt to have a little fun with old wives’ tales. There is no scientific evidence that there is any truth to these, the only way to know the baby’s gender for certain is your 20 weeks ultrasound or prenatal testing. These are just for fun to see if any might be true for you.

Old Wives’ Tales that say you’re having a girl:

  • Craving sweet and tangy foods
  • A lot of Heartburn
  • Extreme morning sickness
  • If your linea nigra starts below your belly button
  • If your hair and nails feel brittle and dry
  • Acne breakouts
  • Carrying high
  • Belly shaped like a watermelon
  • Fetal heart rate over 140bpm

Old Wives’ Tales that say you’re having a boy:

  • Craving salty and spicy foods
  • Little to no heartburn
  • Little to no morning sickness
  • If your linea nigra starts above your belly button
  • If your hair and skin are radiant and full
  • Glowing skin
  • Carrying low
  • Belly shaped like a basketball
  • Fetal heart rate under 140bpm

Sooo which are you having? A boy or a girl? Sometimes these can be very true for some mamas while other mamas have half of each list. Like I said, these are just for fun and have no scientific evidence to support them. My first baby was a boy and based on these lists, it was a 50/50 chance because I had things from each list. Now, with my second baby, I was sure I was having a girl based off the list but it was a boy. So the only way to know for sure is the 20 week ultrasound or prenatal testing.

Regardless of gender, a happy heathy baby is what we all want! Good luck mamas! You got this!
